Check the listing for details. 1891 Antique Sterling Silver British Sewing Thimble. Listed at 39.95 USD. This antique thimble is a stunning piece of Victorian history. Crafted in sterling silver (.925) by British silversmith Thomas Ollivant, it is a true treasure for collectors. The hallmark is stamped from the Birmingham Assay office, and according to the Birmingham date chart is 1891 "r". Note: there are two (2) date stamps that year. The delicate pattern on the band is simple and beautiful. I was not able to find a size mark. I did a little research on-line and keeping in mind it came from my great-grandmother in Scotland I could not confidently size it. From the best of my ability it may be a size 5 or 6, but again not certain. It is in great shape for its age of 133 years. It shows a few scratches as shown in the photos, but other than that it is in great round form. This piece is perfect for those who appreciate the beauty and significance of antique sewing thimbles, and would make a wonderful addition to any collection. As a side note... while I researched on Google I found this AI generated commentary:During the Victorian era, a silver thimble was considered a highly appropriate gift for a woman, often given by a man as a symbol of affection or courtship, signifying his serious intentions; the quality of the thimble, whether plain or adorned with jewels, could indicate the social status of the giver and recipient, with more elaborate designs representing a desire for a higher-class woman.
