An ordinary refrigerator magnet like the one shown to the right (magnet NOT included) will actuate these switches at approximately 1/2". Stronger magnets will work at greater distances. Orientation is important. The axis of the magnet and switch should be parallel. Caution: Glass is FRAGILE. (Duh!) My best advice is to never bend the leads at all. The picture above to the right shows an example of my preferred method. Cut the leads to about ¼". Please do this ONE LEAD AT A TIME to avoid the 'wishbone effect' on the NO/NC pair. Carefully solder your hook-up wire to the outside surface. Not quite mil-standard, but a good solder joint will be plenty strong. Note: We only sell switches with the original wire leads intact. They are NOT modified with hook-up wire leads. The picture is for illustration purposes only. The wire is not included. But if you insist on bending the leads, grasp lead with a pair of needle nose pliers at least ¼" from the glass bulb and bend the end of the lead as you see fit. NEVER STRESS THE LEAD/GLASS SEAL.
