This listing is for the 1625 Regenerative Receiver that you see in the photos. It comes with plug-in coils, a high impedance piezo headset, power supply accessories, and a one transistor built-in audio amplifier. The receiver tunes down below the 630 meter ham band for reception, from about 450 khz, up to about 15.5 mhz, continuous coverage, with 3 plug-in coils provided. With the 9 volt snap-jumper in place, this radio will function pretty well with just the 12 volt power adapter that is provided. However, you will get more volume and greater signal gain by inserting a 9 volt battery in lieu of the 9 volt jumper accessory. This circuit is wired so that, with the jumper removed and a 9 volt battery installed in series with the 12 volt source, this yields just over 20 volts dc to operate the plate circuit of the regenerative receiver and the built-in one transistor audio amplifier. Only the 12 volt ac/dc adapter power source is included in this listing. No batteries are included. A separate wiring plug is provided in case you care to use an external 12 to 14 volt battery or well filtered dc power supply source, in lieu of the ac/dc adapter. Even the best Wal-wart style 12 volt adapters generate a certain amount of hum that is picked up by the sensitive regen detector. The adapters are convenient, but my preference is to use a 12 volt golf cart or automotive battery for the tube filament, when possible, as this will always result in the cleanest possible background audio, especially at higher frequencies. For this particular radio I use binding posts for the antenna input connectors and a 3.5mm miniature audio connector for the headphones. Otherwise I will ship the gray hammered finish, as pictured. The 1625 is the all time classic for a good performing regenerative receiver. It works great, with good headphone volume. You will need a wire antenna at least 25 ft. long and a good earth ground. You'll pick up more stations with a longer antenna, 50 to 100' in length. I'm able to copy tons of stations in the early evening and early morning hours, including stations on the amateur radio bands. The fine tuning control will allow you to clarify ssb and cw signals. A hand sketched wiring diagram will be provided, along with instructions on where to hook the antenna, power and headphones. About 80 to 90% of the parts are new, but since a few of the parts are from good used stock I am listing the radio as used, even though most of the parts are either new or nos. Controls are main and fine tuning, antenna coupling and regen setting. I guarantee this radio will work if you hook it up properly with appropriate power supply and a good antenna.
