Few things are as frustrating as rounding off the soft aluminum top caps on suspension forks or marring the crown. Stop using a crescent wrench or run-of-the-mill sockets and invest in specialty Suspension Top Cap Sockets from Abbey Bike Tools and do the job right. Most sockets have a lead in or chamfer that greatly decreases the contact between the tool and the shallow top caps which can lead to deformation. Many bike shops and suspension service centers will grind down sockets to remove this chamfer in an attempt to improve the grip. This often helps, but unless you can precisely plane the socket down to a level surface, you're left with a tool that still doesn't fit the caps as ideally as it could or should.Abbey CNC machines these sockets from billet aluminum to exacting tolerances to keep your caps pristine.
