From my research these were a sweet available in America from 39/40 onwards. Not an item listed in the k rations, but a Gi could have bought his favorite sweets over in his personal kit with him. This pack design, as in the body, is not made of wood or polystyrene. It is of my own design and will take some pressure in a kit bag but will not crumple of misshapen under normal use.
