A very nice antique tabletop terrestrial globe made in London by the firm Smith & Son sometime in the late 1800’s. The Smith family business was founded by Charles Smith in 1799 as an engraver and map maker. Later, he created small portable globes such as this one. His son joined the firm in 1845 and the business was relocated to 63 Charing Cross in 1870. The overall finish is good with some oxidation, discoloration and a few blemishes and marks throughout but all of the map is clear and readable. 15-1/2” tall by 10” wide. The circumference is approximately 30”.
