Likely dating to the 1860's or 1870's, based on the Birmingham and Redditch locations.Outside shows some wear, especially on edges and corners as shown, but has a nice gold-stamped decoration. Inside is BRIGHT AND FRESH, with unfaded RED SATIN lining in excellent condition, and all graphics crisp and clear. Inside panels read: "Superior Sewing Needles, Kirby Beard & Co. Limited England, Tapestry, Straw, Crewel, Betweens, Darning, Chenille, Needles for Art Work Kirby Beard & Co Limited Patent Birmingham & Redditch" Size closed 4 3/4" x 2 1/2". Size open 11" x 4 3/4".
