This antique U.S. Great Seal button features the classic eagle with shield, arrows, olive branch, E Pluribus Unum banner, and stars above in raised detail. The back is clearly marked W.H. Horstmann & Co. Phila. Pa., a well-known Philadelphia maker active from the late 1800s into the early 1900s. It has the original loop shank and shows attractive coppery patina with green verdigris from age. The front has minor surface wear and the back has a slight dent, consistent with its history on a uniform. A solid collectible for militaria, button, or U.S. Army uniform enthusiasts.
