The big honchos at Atari were so incensed at Betsy's editorial describing how Atari was not paying its bills and more, that we were out the door the next day. Our contract with Atari that we had fulfilled to the letter for the past 5 years was all of a sudden null and void. If you only own one issue of Atari Explorer, this should be the one! You won't find this issue on the Internet Archive either because Atari bigwigs did everything they could to prevent its distribution. Brief History of Atari Explorer. After bringing out the ST computer, Atari wanted a magazine to support it. So they decided to produce it in house. The first issue was Feb 1985, but Atari management quickly discovered that finished magazines did not just automatically roll off the press. So in the next 18 months, they only published 3 more issues. Ziff-Davis had just killed off Creative Computing so Betsy and I were available and entered into a contract with Atari to produce a bi-monthly magazine. Starting in September 1986, we did so for the next 3½ years and produced 21 issues on a regular schedule. We were fired in early 1990. So then to produce the magazine, Atari hired our totally disloyal editor who we had mentored for the past 3 years. In the next 34 months he managed to produce 11 issues before Atari more or less imploded. 100% of the proceeds of this sale go to Beyond the Walls (Charity) Make an offer! What do you have to lose?
