Aimed at the junior high set, (recommended for kids 8 and Up) this richly illustrated CD, filled with cartoons, quick-time movies, and an enthusiastic narration from balding, bespectacled British Bob Winkle, is a lively way for kids to acquaint themselves with the mechanics of DNA and the workings of the brain. Each question is dealt with in an intelligent yet amusing manner. Quick time movie vignettes introduce and frame each question. The production values are top notch, too. Detailed medical illustrations of the human skeleton are interspersed with cartoons illustrating home remedies. Activities like stereoscopic pictures, matching games, carnival-style balloon-shooting galleries reinforce the lessons children learn. Kids can print the text summaries of the various questions, or consult an on-line dictionary for clarification of terms. An index allows them to go straight to certain topics, and they can use bookmarks to mark their places, should they be interrupted. Since some of the material could be considered too sensitive for the very young, parents may wish to block out some segments with a special "content locking" function.
