Its front side is designed by Susanna Blunt and engraved by Susan Taylor. It contains an effigy of Queen Elizabeth II with a maple leaf above and the value below. Its reverse side is designed by Jesse Koreck and engraved by Traian Georgescu. It shows the scientific instruments used in the early formulation of insulin, red blood cells, glucose, and insulin molecules.
