Piper aircraft, hoping pilots returning from World War 2 would want to keep flying, made a prototype single seat plane from a fighter plane drop tank. In 1945 Piper had a view toward marketing the PA-8 SKYCYCLE to sell for less than $1000. It was the rage for about a year. The Air Trails cover shows that plane. One was even hanging from the ceiling of "Wanamakers Department Store" in Philadelphia and created a stir. But soon Piper and other manufacturers found there was no post-war market for single seat planes. Any veterans who wanted to fly also wanted to take their girlfriends or wives flying---or not bother to fly at all. I have a very large packet of original documents for the PIPER PA-8 SKYCYCLE model and actual airplane. As a BONUS I include copies of very nice 3-view scale documentation from my personal archive and some vintage write-ups.
