Civil War HOSPITAL CORPS MACHETE & SCABBARD This Hospital Corps Machete is marked Collins & Co. - Hartford. In 1861 just before the beginning of the Civil War introduced a new marking for Military weapons (Swords, Bayonets, etc.). Collins called it the "Sword Stamp." This consists of Collins & Co. in an arc over Hartford in a straight line.The leather scabbard I believe is a period replacement. The scabbard has crazing & some fading. This is a heavy scabbard made from harness leather.Blade: A few light age stains. Length is 12 inches - overall 17-1/2 inches. Leather washers on handle. Gilt finish on brass guard & endcap.
