Check the listing for details. Cotswold Wool Locks. Color: Ivory, Condition: New. Listed at 30.00 USD. Offering 6oz of beautiful raw Cotswold wool locks to be used in spinning, dyeing, doll making, and whatever other application can be desired. These gorgeous locks are each handpicked into bundles directly from the shorn fleece. This gives the buyer the opportunity to enjoy the process of transforming the sheep wool directly from the sheep to the project of the purchaser’s dreams, while maintaining the integrity of each lock of fiber. This wool washed out to a creamy color with a curly staple and silky satin sheen, with only the limits of imagination on what color it can be dyed or enjoying in its natural color. This fiber is from a historic and “at risk” rare breed of sheep, often called the “Golden Fleece Breed”. It’s history spans centuries, possibly as far back as 54 B.C. during Roman rule in Europe. The wool is known for it’s luxurious sheen, it’s hard-wearing properties, as well as it’s length. This fiber is often dyed in the locks, used for doll hair and Santa beards, and creates strong and gorgeous yarn for knitting, crochet, and weaving projects. Each purchase goes to supporting a small business farmer raising this rare breed that requires an invested 365 days of sunshine, rain, snow and wind, grass and hay, careful daily dedicated effort and passion to bring this wonderful product to market. Please note this product comes directly from animals that live outdoors and often the elements, and as such hay, soil, and natural sheep lanolin are all included in the fiber. Each package is carefully selected to contain a variety of locks taken from different areas of the fleece and can vary from 4-10” lengths, but an average of mainly 6-8” lengths.
