It props the hive cover up on two ends so that air can flow through the hive.They are used instead of regular inner covers. They also make it possible to do quick inspection of hive activity without disturbing the hive.The screen is tacked down with 3/16” strips of wood to provide bee space between the top bars and the screen.Cypress lasts longer and handles the weather better than a beehive made with pine. All of my woodenware is made to exacting specifications in my state-of-the-art workshop.
