I know what you are thinking, big bright object in the middle of the sky, how hard can it be? Much harder than you could imagine. I have seen people actually miss photographing the start of an eclipse because they spent twenty minutes trying to get the sun in their field of view. No kidding! That was almost me at the total solar eclipse in August of 2017. I decided that wasn't going to happen again so I started looking around but couldn't find what I wanted. If it doesn't exist, make it! I decided to just make my own, and I love it! Now you can too! After designing and building several different prototypes I finally found one that works the way I wanted. Each one is custom made on my 3D printer and I even make adapters so I can use them on a camera's hot-shoe and on any telescope even without a mount for it. Basic finder fits both standard vixen mounts found on most telescopes, and Lunt solar telescopes Latest model made from light gray ASA to withstand temperature extremes Adapter available for standard camera flash hot-shoe Universal adapter available fits any telescope 70mm or greater in diameter with just a rubber band Designed, tested, and used at multiple eclipses by an astrophotographer so you know it works Easy to use! Attach the SOLFinder to your telescope or camera, point it in the general area of the sun, look down (away from the sun!) and move the telescope until the bright dot is roughly in the center of the square as shown above, DONE! The image above was actually taken during the annular eclipse in Texas October 14 2023 and is attached to the finder shoe of an Orion 80mm refractor telescope. Different telescope and camera setups have different variances so the bright dot may not be exactly in the center but it should be close enough to find the sun in your camera/eyepiece/viewfinder within seconds instead of tens of minutes. Four Options Basic finder fits both standard vixen mounts found on most telescopes, and Lunt solar telescopes Basic finder as #1 PLUS a universal adapter to fit any telescope 70mm and above Basic finder as #1 PLUS a adapter for standard camera flash hot-shoe Basic finder PLUS BOTH adapters If you select option 1, you will get ONLY the finder meant to fit in vixen finder mounts and Lunt solar telescopes. If you select option 2, you will get the same as option 1 PLUS a snap-in universal adapter allowing you to use the finder with any telescope 70mm and larger (you provide the rubber band). Note: 3D printed parts are not as visually perfect as factory items and may contain blemishes or imperfections that do not affect the functionality of the part.
