The patch shown in the image is the regimental insignia of the 1st Foreign Cavalry Regiment (1er Régiment Étranger de Cavalerie, or 1er REC), which is part of the French Foreign Legion. The 1er REC is the only cavalry regiment in the French Foreign Legion. It is the oldest distinctive unit insignia still used within the Legion, having been distributed to legionnaires in 1936. The regiment's motto, "Nec pluribus impar," is visible on the patch and means "To none other equal". The regiment is currently stationed at Camp de Carpiagne, near Marseille, France.
