Golden Bug Pyritized Triarthrus eatoni Trilobite Fossil Specimen This one in a million Triarthrus collector's specimen is great enough to be in a museum. From the one and only Beecher Ordovician aged shale beds in the Lorraine Group of Lewis County in New York state, this exquisite fossil shows off soft body preservation due to rapid burial of the trilobites with super fine sediment which created a perfect cast for pyrite mineral replacement. You can actually see the individual legs, hair, and even the antennae! Only a few hundred specimens were ever produced from this locality in New York, and majority of them were much much smaller than this fossil. The shale matrix appears to have been broken along a natural plane and carefully glued back together well enough to make it hard to notice. The thing I LOVE about this fossil specimen is that you have two nearly perfect Trilobites, except the larger one is upside down exposing all the fine leg details of the uncommon underbelly while the smaller one is right side up showing the beautiful symmetry of the trilobite shell. Over 100 hours of preparation went into creating this truly amazing golden fossil! Size of both trilobites together: 58mm CRAZYSize of large trilobite (with antennae): 38mm HUGESize of medium trilobite (with antennae): 26mmSize of shale matrix: 5.25 x 4.5 x .75inches Weight: 1 lb. 2 oz.
