The silversmithing here is to the same superb standard as the enamel work just as one would expect from Faberge.The piece is beautifully finished and smooth, it feels lovely in the hand. The two halves of the egg fit perfectly, the precision of the friction fit so good that no hinge or clasp is required. The chasing detailed but delicate and soft to the touch.Three panels depict the Russian Imperial eagle, crowned its feathers black and seizing the sceptre and orb in its talons. Three panels decorated with elaborate foliate elements and crowns. The beautifully chased gilt silver frame continues the foliate motif. The sides and poles of the egg are decorated with amethyst and garnet cabochonsIt is marked in three places as follows: inside the top of the egg it has the Kokoshnik mark for 88 fineness and Moscow assay. There is the additional mark to show that the top is part of a whole. inside the bottom of the egg it is marked as for the top with the Kokoshnik mark for 88 fineness and Moscow assay along with the additional mark to show that the bottom is part of a whole. In addition there is the makers mark for Faberge in Cryllic script along with the double headed eagle representing Faberge's warrant. the lip of the bottom half is marked with the makers mark for Faberge in Cryllic script, the double headed eagle and the Kokoshnik mark for 88 fineness and Moscow assay. Note that on close examination the painted enamel shows some crazing and age appropriate patina.The gilt interior of the egg shows faint surface marks from polishing. The photos form part of the description. The stand is does not bear any makers mark. It is marked 84. The three feet take the form of crowned double headed eagles emblazoned with St George and the dragon. This stand was likely acquired as a replacement for the original, it fits the egg correctly.Egg hallmarked inside on base and rim. Gilt interior.
