The colors dictate the level of resistance: Yellow=4 Lbs / Green=8 Lbs / Blue=12 Lbs / Red=16 Lbs / Black=22 Lbs They're each 48 inches long--and the set includes two foam-covered, detachable handles. The advantage of having handles that detach--rather than a pair of handles mounted to each band--is that you can use one band at a time or combine the bands to create different levels of resistance--anywhere from 4 Lbs to 62 Lbs. It also means you can double a band over before attaching it--for exercises that require less than the full 48" length.
