About candlewicking - "...old form of needlework, true to our American heritage, which flourished...in the late 1800's though its lifespan was relatively short...many changes since its beginning...today is a much simpler form...basic stitches...series of Colonial knots, highlighted...with satin, stem, and back stitchesNatural...thread on unbleached muslin produces an elegant white-on-white effect forming reliefs...After stitching...rinsed in hot water..fabric...shrink around the knots...adds to...relief effect.Old samplers that still survive...show incredible skill...named after the wicking thread used in making candles." 3 out of 4 of the patterns include (except the last group listed)Color photosDirectionsDiagramsMaster drawings 1.
