The scale has never been used and the only reason that I unsealed it was to check it for battery power and functionality. Sure enough there was a brand new never used 9 volt battery in the battery compartment that was sealed in plastic and never connected to the scale. Battery tested well above 9 volts. The battery is fresh and good! When you receive the item simply turn it over to the back side and you will see that the package was previously cut open by me. Should easily pop right out of there.
