If you are riding with no charge warning device fitted, you are taking the risk of being left stranded with a flat battery. If the regulator fails, you can blow bulbs and damage your ignition system or fry the alternator stator. If an encapsulated stator melts onto the rotor it can damage the crankshaft. This CWL warns you of problems and might save a fortune in repair bills. How to install Put the white box in the headlamp shell. Tape it to the wiring loom or wrap it in foam. Bolt the red wire's ring terminal to frame earth (+ve). Plug the piggyback flag connector onto an output terminal of the ignition switch. This wire is 1.2m long and can reach an ignition switch in a motorcycle's sidepanel. Connect the grey wire to the non-earth side of the warning lamp you supply. This wire provides system voltage (12V) of non-earth (-ve) polarity. The warning lamp must be a maximum of 5W. That's it, done! Overcharging/ voltage regulator failure warning - repeated very short flash followed by a long pause. Once you have got familiar with the rpm and electrical loads the light comes on or goes off at, you will be alerted to problems the moment they occur. This CWL+ not only warns of complete charging failure but by being aware of the normal routine, partial failures such as an alternator coil shorting to earth are easily detected.
