The mission of U.S. Army Communications-Electronics Command (CECOM) is to sustain and deliver Command, Control, Communications, Computers, Cyber, Intelligence, Surveillance and Reconnaissance (C5ISR) readiness for American Soldier. I received this U.S. Army CECOM Fort Monmouth, NJ Commanding General Challenge Coin for providing exemplary System Engineering and Technical Assistance Support to the Program Manager, C5ISR in December 1997. CECOM was relocated from Fort Monmouth, NJ to Aberdeen Proving Ground (APG), MD based on the 2005 Base Realignment and Closure decision. Fort Monmouth, NJ has been closed since 15 September 2001. The center of the coin depicts a soldier holding a field radio handset in his left hand and a weapon in his right hand while standing in tall grass. A color version of the CECOM unit crest is to the right of the soldier. The coin's top outer perimeter contains the following raised letter text: "U.S. ARMY COMMUNICATIONS-ELECTRONICS COMMAND". The rear side view of the U.S. Army Communications-Electronics Command Fort Monmouth, NJ Commanding General Challenge Coin is shown in the second attached high resolution photograph. The center of the coin depicts Fort Monmouth's Main Gate entrance via Route 35. The facade of the brick structure is perfectly captured. To the left of the brick facade is a waving flag with two red General Stars. The coin's top outer perimeter contains the following raised letter text: "COMMANDER'S MEDALLION". The coin's bottom outer perimeter contains the following raised letter text: "FOR OUTSTANDING SUPPORT TO SOLDIERS". There are single stars on the left and right sides between the two sets of text. The dimension of the coin is approximately 1 ½ inches in diameter. The right rear side horizontal view of the U.S. Army Communications-Electronics Command Fort Monmouth, NJ Commanding General Challenge Coin is shown in the third attached high resolution photograph. The thickness is approximately 2/16 of an inch thick. The left rear side horizontal view of the U.S. Army Communications-Electronics Command Fort Monmouth, NJ Commanding General Challenge Coin is shown in the fourth attached high resolution photograph. After receipt of this U.S. Army Communications-Electronics Command Fort Monmouth, NJ Commanding General Challenge Coin it was initially displayed in my office and later carefully packed away with my other military memorabilia in our smoke free home. As exhibited in the previous photographs, this U.S. Army Communications-Electronics Command Fort Monmouth, NJ Commanding General Challenge Coin is in excellent condition for being 27 plus years old. As previously noted, CECOM was relocated from Fort Monmouth, NJ to APG, MD in 2001.
