Check the listing for details. Original odd WWII pair USN Officers Lt. John R. Lewis dog tags as found.. Condition: Used. Listed at 125.00 USD. Original unusual pair WWII US Navy Dog Tags for John R. Lewis with one being an standard oval dog tag and the other an Army notched dog tag both with T-44 dates for 1944. Oval tag has a scratched in Lt (Lieutenant) and is engraved John R. Lewis 102375 T-1-44 O USNR P and the notched tag is punched with John Robert Lewis Lieut. USNR 102375 Type O T 1-1-44 P both indicating a Lt. in the Navy blood type O, Tetanus 1944 and Protestant. Tags were obtained locally in San Diego and likely belonged to John "Jack" Lewis of Coronado who retired as a Commander in the Navy. He served aboard a sub chaser early in the war and later YMS-49 (minesweeper) as XO and eventually Commanding Officer seeing action off of Guadalcanal where the minesweeper and 6 landing ships were attacked by 57 Japanese planes downing 3 of them and Tarawa where the minesweeper engaged the Japanese shore guns and rescued personal from a coastal ship. Commander Lewis' full history can be found online at Rutgers WWII oral histories and Coronado Avenue of Heroes tributes. Dog tags are used having light scratches, spots of toning and some wear from use being in overall very good condition (please see photos of both sides for best description). Neat Dog Tags with good history behind them for a collection. Seller does combine shipping on items.
