Original 134 page screenplay bradbound in glossy printed Cinergi studio wrappers. The finished film is a 1996 American romantic drama film starring Robert Redford as a news director and Michelle Pfeiffer as his protégée, with Stockard Channing, Joe Mantegna, and Kate Nelligan directed by Jon Avnet. Didion and Dunne began the screenplay project began as an adaptation of the 1988 book, Golden Girl: The Story of Jessica Savitch by Alanna Nash that told the turmoiled story of the life American news anchor Jessica Savitch, who died tragically in an automobile crash. The resulting film became greatly different than what Didion and Dunne envisioned as the producers wanted a more commercial film and the resulting fictional film held little connection to Savitch. Dunne, having spent eight years working on the script with Didion, later wrote a book telling the story of the difficult and complex experience, entitled Monster: Living Off the Big Screen. The script is accompanied by a copy of Dunne’s book Monster, and a DVD of the finished and released film.
