Originally crafted by Pierre-PaulDubuisson, this design is a marvellous riot of goldtooledrococo elements, featuring birds, flowersand leaves. Dubuisson was himself bookbindingroyalty of a sort. He and his father specialised inalmanacs decorated with gold plates, andDubuisson became the King's official bookbinderin 1758.This cover is an ode to the glory of gold, the colourof the sun and the precious metal against which allothers are measured.
