It has been used once, and then cleaned. It operates by sliding it into the standard opening on the pilot side window, where it seals with gray foam. You hold it in-place briefly, and when ready, pull a finger trigger built into the handle. It is all metal. For transport, up until placing in the window for dispersal triggering, there is a safety pin which keeps it sealed until ready for use. Most folks have no idea the imminent danger and passenger trauma that awaits opening an aircraft window at speed and attempting to disperse cremains, without this rare purpose-built device.
