Check the listing for details. Raymond Orteig Offered Orteig Prize 1st Non-Stop Transatlantic Flight Autograph. Condition: Used. Listed at 375.00 USD. Raymond Orteig [1870 1939] was a French born New York City Hotel owner who offered the Orteig Prize for the first non-stop transatlantic flight between New York and Paris. Orteig owned the Lafayette Hotel in New York which was a favorite gathering spot for airmen during and after World War I. Beginning in 1919 he offered 25,000 dollars to any Allied country to fly in one flight in either direction between New York City and Paris, France. The prize was valid for five years and after it expired, he reissued the prize in again in 1925. Interesting to note, Orteig was on vacation in France when he was notified by his son that a young airman named Charles Lindbergh had departed from New York in an attempt at the prize. Orteig immediately travelled to Paris and arrived just before the Spirt of St. Louis landed but due to the crowd was not able to meet Lindbergh until May 22 at the American Embassy. Listed for auction is the autograph of Raymond Orteig signed on a album page. The autograph is signed ''Raymond Orteig'' in black fountain pen above his typed name. The page measures 4.50 x 2.50 inches and is in fine condition. The autograph is authentic, rare to obtain and will be a desirable example to any aviation/Lindbergh collection.
