What sets Cedric apart from other patterns in its genre is the effect of linen fold fabric on each side of the handle stem. The fruit spoon comes to us with many names. Originally they were called orange spoons, and there was a whole technique for eating an orange. You cut a circle near the top of the orange, hold it in your hand, and scoop out the pulp with the orange spoon. Then when grapefruit were invented in the 1920s, the piece became the grapefruit spoon. A variation has serrated edges to make cutting into the grapefruit work better. Old catalogs call them just the fruit spoon, designed for scooping out the fruit and leaving the husk/ /rind/peel. Today, the fruit spoon works excellently with baked whole fruit, compotes or melons. An excellent dessert, and an easy one to make, is half a cantaloupe with seed scooped out, the hollow filled with raspberry sherbet. The 4 orange/fruit spoons offered here measure about 5 3/4". These are not pieces of new silver. They show the patina of as much as 115 years of careful use. There are the light scratches which constitute normal patina. There is no monogram. Silver is softly lustrous. There is no silver loss. The pattern is crisp and clear. These spoons have been carefully used and well cared for.
