The green on the patch represents Freedom, the yellow strip signifies Survival, Evasion, Resistance and Escape, the Knife represents the basic survival tool, the Barb Wire represents "captivity but freedom regained", the red Chinese character Hu (tiger) alludes to "Here Be Dragons/Tigers" legend found on early maps and the black symbolically honors those who have died on active duty.
