Though it bears his name, Grauman was not the sole owner of the Chinese Theatre. His business partners in the venture were Mary Pickford, Douglas Fairbanks and Howard Schenck. He was one of the original 36 founders of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences and in 1949 received an honorary Academy Award for raising the standard for film exhibition.
