Space Log - Winter 1968, The Soviet Space Program, Published by TRW (SH-012) The Space Log was a quarterly journal published by TRW Inc, once a major aerospace manufacturer. The journal included general interest articles about recent space activity as well as numerous tables summarizing activity for both the United States and other countries. This issue of the journal dates to Winter 1968-1969 with a detailed discussion on "The Soviet Space Program - A Growing Enterprise". It was authored by Dr. Charles Sheldon II who was Acting Chief of the Legislative Reference Service of the Library of Congress at that time. Topics include: - Soviet Launch Sites including Tyuratam, Kapustin Yar and Plesetsk (plus a map of the location of the sites) - Soviet Launch Vehicles including those used to launch standard missions such as Vostok through the "G" series very heavy launch vehicle (plus a table of the types of launch vehicles, characteristics, types of payloads, and a comparative drawing of the launch vehicles) - Soviet spacecraft by Category, Launch Site, Launch Vehicle and Payload Names Additionally this Log includes: - Descriptions of all announced United States and foreign spacecraft launched during the second half of 1968, including Apollo 7 and 8, Orbiting Astronomical Observatory and Tiros (plus numerous vintage photos of some of the spacecraft) - Condensed Log of 1957 to 1968 Space Projects, including project name, country, launch data, initial orbital data and status - Box Score of US Spacecraft Launches See images for full table of contents. Founded in 1901, TRW no longer existed after 2002 following the sale of all its assets. Interestingly, Bill Gates worked at TRW at age 15 debugging energy-grid control software. This Space Log is a valuable historical document on the early years of the space program (both US and other countries), containing many photos and spacecraft illustrations. About Space Flight Collectibles The memorabilia we offer in our store was collected while I was a teenager and wrapped up in the enthusiasm of those early years of the space program. Much of what we offer was collected as part of the research I was doing for projects in local science fairs. The memorabilia in our store are all original and include NASA and contractor brochures, photos, technical reports, press kits and commemorative collectibles. We will be adding new memorabilia on a regular basis. Subscribe to our newsletter to receive updates on new arrivals. Whether you have an interest in the space program from a historical or technical perspective, or just looking to give someone a unique gift, we're sure you will find the memorabilia in our store of interest. Our store is dedicated to the memory of my parents John and Lorette who never stopped supporting me in my interest in the space program. In July 1969, my Father and I were fortunate to receive a tour of the Kennedy Space Center 3 weeks before the launch of Apollo 11. In this photo I am joined by our NASA host to view the Saturn V/Apollo on Launch Pad 39A surrounded by the Mobile Service Structure. In July 1970, I had the opportunity to meet with Wernher von Braun in his office at NASA Headquarters in Washington, DC. Dr. von Braun was kind enough to take the time to critique the design I had presented at a local science fair on a space station re-using Gemini and Apollo hardware.
