Our Springtail culture arrives in a dirt substrate ready to seed your terrarium/vivarium's substrate. We do not ship in charcoal due to Springtails being crushed in transit and increased temperature swings. To use your culture, simply mix the inoculated soil directly into your substrate and keep hydrated. Our Temperate/Tropical Springtail soil culture will thrive in most terrarium/vivarium environments. Our Microfauna Food is a proprietary blend of Vitamin Fortified Dry Yeast that can be used as supplemental or direct food source for Microfauna such as Springtails, Isopods and more. Containing everything needed for a colony to thrive, our easy food source will keep a culture fed for weeks with a pinch of powder every few days. This is helpful if your terrarium does not have living inhabitants to supplement low waste conditions or to boost new colony growth rate. Other sellers may list a "count" of Springtails included in their culture. We find this information misleading as there is no reasonable way to "count" creatures of this size. Each of our cultures are packed full Springtails proportionate to culture size. If we had to guess, at minimum you are getting 30-50 per 2oz and it only goes up from there.
