Stunning Blue Enamel 84 Marked Silver Cigarette Case Probably Russian with Provenance - Dr. Bogdanowicz Estate 19th/20th Century Hallmarks that I see: I 84 and a triangle (some type of figure inside of triangle) on one side - the other I 84 and a triangle (some type of figure inside of triangle) and a circle with unidentified marking. Piece measures approximately 3 3/8" x 2 3/8" Weighs just under 5 oz. or approximately 141grams See pictures for details as they are an important part of the description. From the estate of Dr. Wojciech Maria “Wojtek” Bogdanowicz. M.D. of Madison, WI and Naples, FL. He was born on June 12, 1936 in Warsaw, Poland Wojtek was not only a survivor of WW II but also an Auschwitz survivor. His father, Anthony, a captain in the Polish army, was a victim of the Russian invasion of Poland in 1939 and lost in life at the Katyn Forest. Wojtek could fascinate all with stories of survival as a child during the war. He studies medicine in Poland. His quest brought him to the US in 1962. He first worked at Patterson General Hospital in Patterson, NJ as a pediatric intern. Wojtek became a US citizen shortly after his arrival and was proud of his new homeland. He did his medical residency in Neurosurgery at Dartmouth in Hanover, NH. He practiced one of his life’s passions, Neurosurgery at St. Mary’s Hospital in Madison for over 35 years and was a pioneer in establishing trauma care at St. Mary’s. Additionally, he was a fierce advocate for his patients and was integral in establishing the first CT scanner at St. Mary’s Hospital. He was a kind person with a love for people, art and learning. Wojtek provided specialized medical missionary work around the world. Wojtek was a passionate patron of the arts. He could lecture on art as easily as he could Neurosurgery. He never stopped learning and was intrigued by art until the very end. He was an avid collector from auctions, world travels and his thirst for knowledge. Wojtec acquired this piece on his many travels to China.
