The banknotes obverse features a telescope, elementary school children studying a globe, and a school girl with a microscope. The reverse of the note displays mikado pheasants, chrysanthemums, and Mount Yu. The banknote is 160 x 70 mm in size and bears a windowed security thread with a demetalized 1000. It also bears a holographic strip and a watermark that reveals chrysanthemums and an electrotype 1000. This particular banknote is in uncirculated condition.
