It was formed on the basis of the 93rd Mechanized Division.The 93rd Brigade defended the state sovereignty and territorial integrity of Ukraine from the very beginning of the war in eastern Ukraine with Russia. The brigade's units took part in the fiercest battles of the war, including the battles near Ilovaisk, Donetsk airport and Pisky, and the Butivka mine. The brigade suffered the highest losses among Ukrainian military units: as of the end of 2017, 272 soldiers were killed in action. As of the beginning of 2018, more than 1,000 soldiers of the brigade have been awarded state decorations, including three who received the title of Hero of Ukraine and the Golden Star Order. Since 2018, the brigade has been honorably named "Kholodnyi Yar" in honor of the historical area of Naddniprians'ka Ukraine, which was famous for its insurgents.
