THIS ITEM MEASURES 4 IN X 3.25 IN.Located on the Son Tra peninsula, close to Da Nang, Marble Mountain (Monkey Mountain) was a long time base of the SOG, in-particular the Ben Hai Commandos and home of many Strata Missions and a Major FOB Base for units operating along the DMZ and inside North Vietnam and laos. Whilst Monkey Mountain was utilized as an FOB for thousands of missions from the early 1960's, by 1967 losses for missions that operated directly from FOBMM ( Forward Operating Base Monkey Mountain) saw an unusually high attrition rate in comparison to teams that went to work via other destinations ( i.e Nakhon Phanom, Thailand). During prisoner exchanges between the North Vietnamese and the US in 1973, with US Teams still operating out of FOBMM ( contravening the Paris Peace Accords) the North Vietnamese refused to release South Vietnamese commando operatives of the Ben Hai and Biet Kich teams caught inside North Vietnam. Numbering almost 100 operatives only two were released. One such released POW was Lt. Hong Tran of the Biet Kich, Strata (SOG) team. During his debriefing, Tran informed US Intelligence that he was shown hundreds numerous photos of Strata Teams training at Monkey Mountain.
