Chronometers clocks were very important to the navy at the time. They were used for navigation and time when the submarine was submerged under water. The reason the clock has screw holes was to prevent swaying of the clock hands from going out of place when the submarine is moving. The enamel dial and movement is in excellent condition and keeps up with exact time. Impressive for a clock that is over 100 years old. No Returns Accepted Thank You
