This listing is for a reproduction WWI US Army 1917 contract paper wrapped National Biscuit Company Brand Hard bread "Hard tack" ration box as issued to the US Army in France. This reproduction is one of two different versions made by this company under contract during the First World War. This reproduction unlike similar versions offered elsewhere has the correct period "inner seal" logo versus the post 1918 and later company logo as seen on every other reproduction offered .Box is empty, contains NO food product and is created for display. These where replaced in 1918 by "Gas Proof" metal hard bread tins as shown in the comparison picture but where approximately the same size as the tins. Most WWI period equipment displays that include rations display four boxs or tins in the pack as standard issue. NOT available for emergency orders.
