It is embroidered in light gray cotton thread on a fine blue Melton wool backing and measures 22½ inches in length. There is no damage or staining and it remains an attractive example in excellent condition. Schlachtgeschwader 2 (SG2) IMMELMANN was formed on 18 October 1943. In 1941, Stukageschwader 2 was transferred to the Eastern Front. As a close-support Stuka unit, it fought principally in the southern sector of the Eastern Front at Stalingrad and the Caucasus. It primarily flew the Junkers JU 87 Stuka but was augmented with the FW 190 in late 1942. Hans-Ulrich Rudel was among the commanding officers of the unit and was in command at the end of the war.8540
